22nd July News from The Camera Club
Welcome to On the Wall – the newsletter from Gallery 1885 at The Camera Club.
There’s lots to talk about. The current exhibition, the next exhibition, exhibitions to see in London and the closing of Gallery 1885 for refurbishment!
Now read on…
Gallery 1885 | Closed for Refurbishment
31 July to 06 August
It has been a long time since Gallery 1885 has been decorated. Now, after much discussion, the gallery is going to have a new look. With new lighting, new furniture and a re-think about how we present the exhibitions, Gallery 1885 will be closing for a short period to start the process.
The space, as well as presenting interesting and inspiring photography is used for many other purposes. Workshops, group meetings, chatting with chums, a place a to relax, a place to meet clients. Unfortunately, that is not going to be possible from Monday 31 July to Sunday 06 August.
To create enough time for the work to be done on schedule, the current exhibition, “Captured Vision” will be closing a week earlier than advertised on Saturday 30 June.
And what will be the first event after the work has been completed? The Members’ Summer Exhibition!

Evelyn Hofer | The Photographers Gallery |
23 June to 24 September
This is the first UK solo exhibition of the German-American photographer Evelyn Hofer (1922-2009). ‘The most famous unknown photographer in America’.
From black and white portraits in London and Wales to the vibrant colour of street and park life in New York and Washington, Hofer shot in colour and black and white throughout her career, depending on which she thought right for her subjects. With a keen sense of class structure, her portraits give equal measure to her subjects: from a waitress at the Garrick Club in London and gravediggers in Dublin, to the uniformed Joint Chiefs in Washington's corridors of power.

Bryan Adams in Colour | Atlas Gallery
27 June to 12 August
Bryan Adams is probably best known as a world-famous Canadian rock musician, but he is also a self-taught photographer who went professional in the late 1990s.
As well as filling stadiums, he has spent the last twenty years or so photographing fellow musicians, actors, models, sportsmen and political figures.
Inspired by “seeing things through rose-tinted glasses”, Brian Adams has brought a fresh approach and inspiration to his already well-known catalogue of portraits including Kate Moss, Amy Winehouse, Mick Jagger and many, many others.
Experimenting with multi-coloured plexiglass, he has created a “dreamlike suspension”…
