Printing at the Camera Club
The Camera Club has an Epson 3880 Inkjet (Giclée) printer. We are also hoping to repair a larger Epson 7900 wich is currently out of service. These are operated by the club on a 'Cost-Recovery' basis. Only authorised print operators are allowed to print. You CAN NOT come and print your own material. This is so we can control loss and wastage for this expensive to operate equipment.
Printed Surface
- Hahnemuhle Natural Agave (290 gsm) in A4, A3+ and A2
- Hahnemuhle Natural Sugar Cane (300 gsm) in A4, A3 and A2.
- Various other Hahnemuhle paper stock will become available on the form as time goes on. If you would like to see some printed samples, then please ask!
Sample prints are available for you to examine in the Digital Suite. We are very grateful to Hahnemuhle, who have provided us with a lot of paper, allowing us to keep costs as low as possible.
Preparing an Image File
Image Settings
- Bit-depth should be 8-bits. There is a maximum size of 10 Mbytes for the image file.
- Pixel density: 360 ppi or 300 ppi are good. You should not submit images with less than 240 ppi.
- Colour space: For colour images you should submit the image in Adobe RGB (1998)
- Black & White: We will normally print monochrome images with Epson’s Advances Black and White setting as this gives good depth. However, if you want us to print them as colour with the normal colour managed workflow, please add this in a comment on the web form.
- File type: Use maximum quality JPEG/Tiff files.
- Maximum file size 20Mb
Layout
- Margins: The maximum printable area on the paper needs to allow for a 3mm margin all around. We do not print borderless images. There is a roller cutter in the Digital Suite if you need to trim off any borders.
- Centred: The image you submit will be printed centred on the page at the image size in the file.
- If you want the print to be offset from the centre, as is often the case with a square image in a portrait format mount, you should extend the canvas with white to get your desired arrangement. The final size should be the paper size minus 3mm
Submitting a Print request
- Use the web form at xxxxx.
- For technical reasons, it would be very helpful if you could include the size you would like the image printed, e.g. 35 cm x 25 cm. We hope that this will not be necessary when we update the software early in 2026.
- The price will be quoted when you select the media and size, and you will need to pay before submitting the print request. You can pay from your PayPal account or by card via PayPal. In the latter case please ensure you select guest payment on the PayPal webpage.
- You cannot use club points to pay for prints
Prints on your Own Paper
- Please include the following information in the comments box if you able to. Much of this is found on the side of your paper box or on the leaflet inside.
- The paper manufacturer and type e.g. Permajet Fibre Based Pearl Baryta.
- The recommended media settings for the Epson 3880 printer, e.g. Epson Premium Lustre Photo paper.
- A web link to the generic printer profile web site for the paper (ICC profiles), e.g. PermaJet Generic ICC Profiles.
Large Print Runs / Exhibition Batches
- A large print run is over 5 print requests submitted in the space of a week. For this please email: printer@thecameraclub.co.uk and let us know so that we can work with you. If you need images printing for an exhibition date please give us several weeks’ notice so that we can organise supplies and printing shifts.
- When your print is ready for collection you will be notified by email. You should then collect it from reception. For A4 prints it will be in an envelope; for larger prints it will be in a clear sleeve, so you will need to bring a portfolio or something similar to carry it home.
- We aim to always produce quality prints and you will be required to check it. Assuming it is satisfactory, sign the stewards’ sheet.
- Rework - The Print Operator's decision is final with regard to the quality. However, If you have a concern, please notify the steward and return the print to them with a short note indicating the issue. We will be happy to review the print and if necessary, reprint it or email you to discuss it.
