Introduction to Analogue is an introductory course aimed at anyone wanting to learn the end to end process of analogue photography. 

This fully comprehensive two part 1-1 tuition course, teaching you the basics of film photography and darkroom processing and printing. 

By the end of this course you will become confident in processing and printing your own B&W film in a darkroom.


Accreditation

Please Note: All members who want to to use the darkrooms will have to complete one accreditation and workshop before being able to book the darkrooms.

Offers member full accreditation into the darkrooms

Accreditation includes a breakdown of all darkroom equipment , paper and chemistry and the rules of using the darkrooms.

What You'll Learn
Using a 35mm Film Camera 
  • How to load and unload your 35mm film camera, and how to choose the right settings on your camera for best results 

Processing 35mm Film
  • Preparing a 35mm film cassette for the development process
  • Preparing the chemicals you'll use for processing in the right concentrations, temperatures and timings
  • Archiving and storing your developed negatives

Contact Printing 
  • Making a contact sheet from your 35mm film negatives using Ilford Resin Coated Photographic Paper
  • Using Ilford Resin Coated Photographic Paper and Ilford PQ Developer to produce a professional black and white contact sheet

Printing 35mm Film
  • Selecting a photograph to enlarge
  • Enlarging a negative on a DeVere 203 Enlarger
  • Creating print borders 

Who Should Attend?
This comprehensive four part course is ideal for anyone wanting to get up to speed quickly and prepare themselves for using the darkrooms independently. 

You'll be given a full accreditation and there will be information printouts to take away from each accreditation and workshop.

  • Ilford HP5 35mm film
  • Free use and instruction of all equipment

Sessions Requirements 

You can come to the first session with your own film to process or pick one up from us beforehand, or get one afterwards to take away and try something new...

You can come to the second session with your own negatives to print, print those that you developed in the first session or print some of ours. And take away a film for your next project...

Follow up sessions will be available in due course and will include advanced darkroom printing techniques and alternative, experimental procedures.
