Gallery 1885
A Dedicated Space For Photographic Art
Gallery 1885 is the dedicated exhibition space of The Camera Club, one of the world’s oldest photographic societies. Named after the year of the Club’s founding, the gallery stands as a testament to our long history of supporting photographers and celebrating the art of photography.
Since 1885, when J. Harris Stone, editor of Amateur Photographer magazine, gathered some of the most distinguished photographers of the time to establish a club devoted to the social, scientific, and artistic aspects of photography, The Camera Club has remained a creative hub for photographers of all levels. Today, Gallery 1885 continues this legacy by providing a professional, well-lit space where photographers can share their vision, refine their craft, and connect with an engaged audience.
Located on the ground floor of The Camera Club, Gallery 1885 hosts a dynamic programme of monthly exhibitions featuring outstanding work by Club members, as well as national and international guest artists. We are also proud to hold two Annual Members’ Exhibitions, one in Winter and one in Summer, offering a special opportunity for our members to showcase their work as part of a collective celebration of photographic artistry.
In addition to Gallery 1885, we have an additional exhibition space in the Stairwell Gallery, where we proudly present The Four Project—a monthly feature in which one of our members showcases four photographs on a single theme, providing an intimate insight into their artistic perspective.
